Open Pedagogy

Open pedagogy refers to a broad suite of teaching practices and the thinking that underpins them. It involves

  • prioritizing the use of Open Educational Resources and other open tools;
  • giving students the opportunity to learn “in the open” (eg. outside the confines of the classroom or the LMS);
  • the use of persistent (non-disposable) assignments;
  • offering authentic assignment options; and
  • sharing teaching practices openly.

An open pedagogy involves students as co-creators of knowledge and often asks them to be part of the teaching process, helping to set ground rules for the classroom experience or rubrics for assessment.
